Short distances & innovative pioneer.

The city of short distances.

The structure, which extends across 50 square kilometres, grew over the past centuries and offers a compact infrastructure. There is a fluent transition of working and living space despite its clear spatial separation. For example, you will find an idyllic cycling route only a stone’s throw away from a high-tech enterprise. This is not a balancing act for the city’s responsible persons but a careful merger of work and leisure as a harmonic whole.

Investment is economic momentum.

The strength of St. Veit/Glan is its strong economic backbone. It has sound finances, a well-oiled economy as well as high living standards paired with attractive living space. That is why the city is an absolute pioneer in Carinthia. In addition, St. Veit/Glan emphasises on renewable energy since decades. The city has the tightest district heating system per capita in Europe and photovoltaic panels are being built in its urban area with a peak capacity of 4 megawatts – this is the size of about four football fields. Altogether solar power provides energy to 1500 households in St. Veit – and this does not even include private photovoltaic panels on roofs of house owners. St. Veit/Glan has always been a forerunner in terms of smart energy solutions. This is especially true in terms of electric mobility. Since 2015 the city successfully operates an electronic car-sharing project and is now the fifth-biggest municipal provider within this segment in Austria.
