The city has the tightest district heating system per capita in Europe and photovoltaic panels are being built in its urban area with a peak capacity of 4 megawatts – this is the size of about four football fields. Altogether solar power provides energy to 1500 households in St. Veit – and this does not even include private photovoltaic panels on roofs of house owners. St. Veit/Glan has always been a forerunner in terms of smart energy solutions. This is especially true in terms of electric mobility. Since 2015 the city successfully operates an electronic car-sharing project and is now the fifth-biggest municipal provider within this segment in Austria.
